About this ship

The Nil Desperandum (never despair, Latin) is a stately 119-year-old three-masted schooner. In 1894, this ship was built as a clipper and used to transport goods such as potatoes, peat and other bulk products. After the introduction of road transport, many ships were doomed to be scrapped, but increasingly, hulls (the body of the ship) are being reused for charter shipping. The old glory is being revived, the ships are once again gliding gracefully across the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea, and so the old Dutch tradition is being preserved to some extent. A few years ago, the Nil Desperandum was converted into a luxury charter ship and now, from early spring to late autumn, it carries passengers who are ready for a relaxing and sporty sailing holiday.
